#GAME35 28/10/17 Worksop Town 2-1 Parkgate

Worksop Town 2-1 Parkgate FC

Attendance: 423
Goals: Turner (51’), Denton (85’); Moore (79’)
Lineup: Fielding; Woolley, Liversidge, Wankiewicz, Phillips; Barnett, Jepson (Thompson), Hill; Currie (Denton), Jordan, Turner
Unused Subs: Alexander, Bishop,

So I arrived on around 27 minutes. Better late than never I suppose

Parkgate went close as soon as I paid my fiver on the gate when leftback Bond... Pierce Bond tried his luck from 25 yards with a volley that went inches wide of young Callum Fielding’s goal.

Jake Currie then nearly caught out the keeper with a long ranged snapshot that bobbled all the way and almost over Jepson. And that was all I saw for the first half.

In to the second we went and ex-Tigers youth keeper Sam Jepson was almost on the scoresheet when his freekick from his own half was carried by the strong wind and needed current Tigers youth keeper Fielding to tip over.

Worksop took the lead six minutes after the break when Jordan beat the keeper to the ball and then knocked the ball across the face of goal for Jordan Turner to slide in and poke the ball home.

KJ almost turned provider when he brought the ball down perfectly and saw his strike saved by Jepson, Jepson was then in the right space to block the resulting shot from Turner.

Jepson was called into action again several minutes later as Lee Hill found space 25 yards out and hit a fierce strike towards the bottom corner. Sam Jepson matched his effort and could only parry the ball into the path of Turner who did well to react and shoot first time but his shot hit the post and rolled into the hands of the Parkgate keeper.

Parkgate were in search of an equaliser as Hirst hit the bar after cutting in from the left. Moore controlled the ball and hit a shot towards goal but Fielding got down superbly to keep it out.

Subsequently Parkgate’s pressure paid off as they levelled with ten minutes to go as Hirst and Moore linked up again. Hirst spotted Josh Moore at the back post, Hirst headed across goal into the bottom corner.

However Worksop were again in the lead five minutes later when Jack Barnett’s freekick was flicked on towards goal by Hill, his header fell to Alec Denton who smashed the ball into the roof of the net.

Turner could of extended the lead when Denton broke through on goal. He unselfishly squared the ball to Turner who then rifled the ball against the post. The final whistle went and Hindley’s men won 2-1

#GAME34 28/10/17 Sheffield Wednesday 1-1 Barnsley FC

Sheffield Wednesday vs Barnsley

Attendance: 27,097
Goals: Reach (34’); Barnes (67’)
SWFC: Westwood; Hunt, Lees, van Aken, Pudil (Butterfield); Wallace (Joao), Lee, Bannan, Reach; Fletcher (Rhodes), Hooper
BFC: Davies; McCarthy, MacDonald, Lindsey, Yiadom; Hammill (Isgrove), McGeehan (Moncur), Williams, Barnes; Thiam (Potts), Bradshaw

The points were shared in the South Yorkshire Derby

Barnsley opened the chances when Cameron McGeehan’s freekick beat the wall but couldn’t beat Keiren Westwood as the Irish international got enough on the ball to keep it out.

Shortly after the visitors had another great chance to get their noses in front when van Aken could only managed to clear into the path of Hammill who hit his shot straight at Westwood.

Wednesday had their best chance of the half when Kieran Lee took Wallace’s pass in his stride and rifled his shot from 30 yards on to the face of the crossbar, the ball fell to Steven Fletcher but he couldn’t capitalise.

The Owls took the lead when Hooper ran the length of the edge of the box, Reach took the ball away from the Owls forward. Reach’s shot was blocked by his own leg as he slipped , the ball flew into the air and over the Tykes shot-stopper

Tom Lees could of made it two when Bannan chipped the ball to the back post, Lees headed it down but his header was saved by the legs of former Owls back up keeper Davies. That was all for the first half and the home side led 1-0.

Wednesday continued their dominance and went close when Bannan produced a moment of brilliance as he flicked the ball between two opposing players who then tackled each other. He ran out of danger and played it to Hooper who then switched play to Jack Hunt where the right back fired a shot agonisingly wide.

Barnsley started to slowly work their way back into the game as Harvey Barnes slalomed his way to the by-line and saw his cross slice across the crossbar and Wednesday cleared.

Barnsley levelled in the 67th minute when Andy Yiadom cased down a lost cause and passed it to winger Barnes who took it on to his right foot and curled it beautifully into the back of the net. Nothing Westwood could do to keep that out!

The Owls were in search of another goal by applying piles on piles of pressure for the rest of the game. Ex-Barnsley player Jacob Butterfield chipped the ball towards Hooper but Davies came out to claim the cross.

Davies was soon back in action when two minutes later Hunt crosses from the right into the middle of the box to Hooper who directed his header towards goal but Davies saved well

Wednesday could find that finishing touch and both teams walked away with a point each. Now for me, straight from Hillsborough and down the M1 to Sandy Lane for Worksop Town vs Parkgate
I arrived in the 27th minute....

#GAME33 21/10/17 Haughmond FC 1-2 Worksop Town

Haughmond 1-2 Worksop Town

Annnnnnd relax! What a brilliant day and has to be up their with my favourite away days so far.

It all started at 9am walking up to Sandy Lane for a Sausage Sarnie, at first it was just Picko and his little ones (and not trying to flog fidget spinners this time ;) ). The clubhouse began to fill up and before we knew it we was boarding the coach, 99% of us were ready to set off for 11am, the other percent was Big Jason Alexander who was late. The coach took us to the fire station to pick the rest of the players up, almost leaving JT behind who also got his seat taken by Derek, and then two coach’s full of the Tigers faithful were on their way Shrewsbury bound. The fans enjoyed a few cans and a sing song on the coach there, it was pretty much the same on the return leg of the journey.

105 Miles later the barmy army took over The Coracle. Singing and bouncing all the way up too kick off. Even some of the players; Higgo, Thommo, Trenchy and Mitch Husbands joined in with some of the songs. 25 minutes before kick off we headed down the road to the Shrewsbury Sports Village where the ground was located. I’d never seen anything like this before regarding non-League and after a chat with some of the supporters that had travelled by car or via train, it was time for the kick off.

The Tigers lineup consisted of Fielding; Hodder, Liversidge, Phillips, Bishop; Barnett, Hill, Jepson; Currie, Denton, Jordan. The Tigers opened the chances when Denton played the ball to Jake Currie who returned the favour but Alec could only shoot wide.

Currie, who was starting his first game since he dislocated his shoulder, skipped past two defenders and played the ball to Jordan who was on the edge of the box however KJ curled his effort over the bar.

Haughmond had their best chance of the half when their number 7 ran down the left flank, cut in and saw his shot deflect off Liversidge and then Phillips cleared off the line.

Worksop opened the scoring right on half time when Turner was played through on goal by Currie, his first initial shot was blocked by the legs of The Mond centre-back. Turner jumped back up and slotted the ball between the keeper and defender into the back of the net.

Worksop had a goal ruled out for a foul on the keeper ten minutes into the second half when Jordan chased the ball down to the byline where the Haughmond number one tried to shield the ball for it to go out for a goalkick. Jordan who the ball and bent it into the corner of the net from the tight angle but the linesman deemed that Kyle had pushed the keeper.

Shortly after Jordan should have doubled the lead when he went one on one with the keeper. KJ slipped the ball under the keeper but the ball rolled agonisingly wide of the post.

This seemed costly at the time as Haughmond got a slice of luck and equalised due to an own goal from Phillips. The number seven outwitted Hodder and beat him to the by-line to cross. Jed attempted to clear the cross but unfortunately slid the ball into his own net.

The Tigers found their winner six minutes from time as Kyle Jordan bagged his deserved goal. Jepson played a perfectly weighted ball over the top of the home side defence and Kyle ran on to it and dinked the ball over the goalkeeper and sent Worksop into the next round.

Turner was wrongly denied the third goal of the game as he won the ball off the keeper on halfway and raced towards and open goal but the ref blew the fulltime whistle and sent the Worksop faithful into raptures.

Everyone then headed back to the boozer up the road and everyone including the players were all chanting and bouncing. The atmosphere was electric. The last leg of the trip was the bus home. Everyone on the bus chanting the songs of the players on the bus, ‘weeveee got Woolleyyyyyy’ for example as a clean one for the blog (keeping it PG ;) , won’t include the thoughts of Posh spice and Currie XD). We even belted out bohemian rhapsody! It was a great laugh

Overall it was a brilliant day out, one of my personal favourites. It was a beautiful thing to see, the camaraderie around the club is high and everyone is happy. Dem Tigers 

#GAME32 17/10/17 Barton Town 2-3 Worksop Town

Barton Town 2-3 Worksop Town

Worksop turn around a two goal deficit to win with the last kick of the game.

Barton raced into the lead with a brace from Gareth Barlow in the first twelve minutes of the game but a goal from Alec Denton and own goals from Langton and Barlow secured all three points for Worksop Town.

The home side opened the scoring on seven minutes when Jamie Richardson raced down an open left flank to hit a low cross into the path of striker Gareth Barlow who tucked the ball into the net.

Barlow was gifted his brace five minutes later when Matthew Varley played a sloppy pass into the strikers feet, Barlow raced forward and rounded Alexander to slot home.

The Tigers pulled a goal back a minute later as Bishop dinked the ball in to the six yard box for Alec Denton to poke over the keeper.

Steve Wankiewicz had two great chances to equalise in the space of five minutes. Firstly Varley crossed in a clearance from his long throw which was met by the head of Wankiewicz but Jody Barford caught his effort. Then he heel flicked Jepson’s corner but his shot was subsequently parried away.

Goalkeeper Jason Alexander was then carried off as he collapsed to the ground holding his head. Outfield player Jack Barnett stepped up and replaced the 6ft 6” keeper in between the sticks on the half hour mark.

On the stroke of halftime Richardson tried his luck from the edge of the box after he wrong footed Liversidge and hit his strike on the face of the post. That was all for the first half and the home side went in leading 2-1.

Denton almost got his second when he was played through one-on-one with Barford, however the Tigers number nine failed to produce quick enough and the keeper rushed out and blocked.

Shortly after Jack Barnett was called into action and made two good saves. Richardson, who was a nuisance all night on that left hand side, bent his shot across the face of goal, it seemed to be creeping in until Barnett got down quickly to push the ball away from goal. Then Langton hit an audacious effort from 30 yards, the ball was swerving in the air but Barnett watched it all the way and kept it out.

The team in Amber and Black were level six minutes from time thanks to a slice of luck. Ethan Nelson headed Varley’s cross into the path of Wankiewicz, Steve’s volley was going just wide of the post until Mitch Langton arrived at the back post and cleared the ball into his own net.

Jack Barnett then pulled off a cracking save at the end to keep the point in tact as he got fingertips to tip over Hutchinson’s strike that was dipping in to the net.

That point turned to three as Worksop found a winner with the last kick of the game. Jepson floated a ball into the box. Midfielder Micah Bishop redirected it towards goal and Barton Town Striker Barlow accidentally guided it into his own net.

A lucky but hard fought three points away in Barton-Upon-Humber. We now face a trip on Saturday to Haughmond FC in the FA Vase and it promises to be a great day out with two coaches carrying the Tigers faithful. Why not come down early and have a bacon or sausage sarnie along with a pint before we hit the road, Clubhouse open from 9am.

#GAME31 14/10/17 Bolton Wanderers 2-1 Sheffield Wednesday

Bolton Wanderers 2-1 Sheffield Wednesday

Attendance: 17,967
Goals: Ameobi (10’), Hutchinson OG (61’); Lee (68’)
BWFC: Alnwick; Little, Beevers, Wheater, Taylor; Ameobi (Noone), Henry, Vela (Cullen), Pratley, Armstrong (Morais); Madine. Unused Subs: Howard, Burke, Robinson, Le Fondre.
SWFC: Wildsmith; Hunt, Lees, van Aken, Reach; Wallace (Rhodes), Lee, Jones (Hutchinson), Bannan; Hooper, Fletcher (Joao). Unused Subs: Dawson, Palmer, Pudil, Butterfield.

Wanderers grab their first win of the campaign against a poor performing Owls side

Bolton took advantage of a lacklustre performance from the Owls to secure their first three points of the season following an early strike from Sammy Ameobi and help from an own goal by Hutchinson. Wednesday pulled a goal back through Kieran Lee but Bolton battled and got their victory.

Bolton opened the scoring on ten minutes when Ameobi picked up the ball on the left. His pace and quick feet caused Jones to slip and Ameobi curled his effort into the bottom corner beyond the grasp of Wildsmith. This was Bolton’s first goal in over 600 minutes of football.

Six minutes later Josh Vela broke through the Wednesday backline to force out a save from Wildsmith. Vela then turned provider as his cross was met by the head of David Wheater but his effort went just inches wide of the post.

Just before the break Wednesday had there best chance of the game. Hoopers deflected shot fell into the path of Kieran Lee who tried to place it past the keeper, Alnwick saved the shot and Little tackled the ball into the path of Adam Reach whose shot was headed off the line by former Owls graduate Mark Beevers.

Wednesday upped the tempo for the second half and went close early on, Bannan received a pass from Lee and rifled a shot from 25 yards towards goal, his shot was pushed out for a corner by Alnwick.

Things got worse for the visitors as the home side doubled their lead with a slice of luck. Morais’s corner was converted accidentally by Sam Hutchinson.

Wanderers almost added a third when Hutchinson was robbed of possession by Josh Vela, Vela then put the ball on a plate for Madine to tuck home however the former Wednesday striker hit the post despite having a third of the empty net to aim at.

The Sheffield side pulled a goal back in the 68th minute through a scruffy goal from Kieran Lee. Firstly Hoopers shot from the edge of the box was saved by Alnwick, the ball fizzed up into the air off of Hunt as a Bolton defender tried to clear, Rhodes’s header which was on target was kept out by the hands of Morais (good save to be honest but was only booked after) before Lee arrived to bundle the ball into the net.

Morais forced a clever save out of Wildsmith when he tried his luck from 30 yards out but Joe tipped over his dipping strike.

The game would have been level if it wasn’t for a great save from Ben Alnwick in the Trotters goal. Reach played a great ball for Lucas Joao to get a toe end on the ball but Alnwick saved well with his feet.

Wednesday should have had a penalty in the closing stages when Bannan slotted the ball through to Kieran Lee. Lee used his quick feet and agility to turn past Wheater and go towards the by line, subsequently Wheater tried to make a challenge and caught Lee however the referee deemed Lee to have dived and booked him for simulation.

The game trickled out and Bolton got there win.

Is it time for Carlos to go? Let me know in the comments below

#GAME30 07/10/17 Rainworth Miners Welfare 1-1 Worksop Town

Rainworth Miners Welfare 1-1 Worksop Town

Attendance: 241
Goals: Davies (90+4’), Poole (63’)
Line-ups: Alexander; Hodder, Liversidge (Wankiewicz), Varley, Phillips; Barnett, Jepson (Davies), Thompson, Bishop; Denton, Turner (Chapell)

Rhys Davies’s stoppage time goal rescues a point for the Tigers

Worksop Town put in a below par performance as they travelled to Rainworth Miners Welfare on ‘Non League Day’. Rainworth winger Thomas Poole put the home side in front in the second half but Rhys Davies stepped up off the bench to equalise right at the death.

Ex-Tigers assistant manager Craig Denton set up his side to frustrate Worksop and proved tough to break down throughout the game, although the attacking department was in favour of the away team as they looked the better out of the two sides and made more chance than the Wrens.

The first chance of the game fell to Jed Phillips when he connected with Varley’s long throw, however the defender saw his effort palmed away by former Worksop Town goalkeeper Ben Townsend.

Jack Barnett then tried his luck from 25 yards with a pox shot that rebounded to Turner who subsequently fired the ball over the bar.

On the half hour mark, Rob Ludlum cleared Sam Liversidge’s looping header off the line following a corner from James Jepson.

Just before the break, Welfare had their first chance of the game when danger man Thomas Poole made a mazy run down the wing and fired his shot into the side netting.

Worksop almost broke the stalemate minutes after the break when Turner played the ball to Denton on the edge of the box. The Tigers number nine took the ball out of his feet and rifled the ball into the wrong side of the net stanchion and out for a goal kick.

The visitors were left red faced when they failed to clear the ball in the box from a corner, the ball fell to Poole who slotted past Alexander to put the host’s a goal up on the hour mark.

Shortly after Rainworth had two great chances to double their lead within ten minutes after the opener. Firstly former Sheffield Wednesday youth and Worksop Striker Nathan Modest burst through the Tigers backline but Alexander rushed out and saved Modest’s shot. Then an unmarked Smith hit his volley on to the face of the crossbar after being played a ball over the top from Dakouri.

Davies equalised with one of the last kicks of the game. Rhys picked up the ball from Phillips, he then proceeded to run down the left, cut inside and curled his shot into the bottom corner. His goal brought a loud cheer from the away following, mostly a cheer of relief.

#GAME29 01/10/17 Sheffield Wednesday 3-0 Leeds United

Sheffield Wednesday 3-0 Leeds United- Hooper (25', 41'), Lee (82')
Attendance: 27,927
MOTM: Gary Hooper
SWFC: Wildsmith; Hunt (Palmer), Lees, van Aken, Reach; Wallace, Lee, Jones, Bannan; Hooper, Fletcher
LUFC: Wiedwald, Ayling, Jansson (Dallas), Pennington, Berardi, O’Kane, Phillips, Roofe (Hernandez), Saiz, Alioski (Sacko), Lasogga.

Wednesday run riot against a tough Leeds United side.

Gary Hooper netted two goals in the first half followed by a Kieran Lee wonderstrike confirm the win over their Yorkshire rivals.

Leeds were the better team in the first twenty minutes and had the more chances and possession in that time. Leeds had the first clear cut chance when Samuel Saiz broke down the right handside and crossed to a lurking Aloski at the back post who headed wide into the side netting.

Leeds had another great chance to get their noses in front when Alioski's shot fell the the path of Kemar Roofe whose volley was saved well by Joe Wildsmith in the Owls net.

Many fans were worried that this was going to be a repeat of last sundays tie however the team in Blue and White gained momentum after that chance and kicked into first gear, Lee played a corner to the edge of the Leeds box to Adam Reach who took a touch and hit a shot, that was moving in the air, towards goal, Wiedwald palmed the shot away.

The Owls then took the lead when a Ross Wallace freekick wide right was floated to the head of former Leeds player Tom Lees who headed the ball across goal for Hooper to stab home past the United Keeper.

Shortly after Lee saw his goal wrongly ruled out for offside. Bannan played a perfectly timed ball to Lee who had crept through the defence and slotted past the keeper, following from video replas the goal was not offiside... terrible decision!

Fletcher missed a glorious chance to get on the scoresheet when Wallace crossed the ball into the middle for Fletcher but he put his header agonisingly wide of the post.

Wednesday deservedly doubled their lead thanks to another goal from Striker Gary Hooper. Palmer crossed from the wing to Fletcher who headed it back across to the back post where Hooper headed from a tight angle cleverly past the Keeper to make it 2-0 just before the break.

Into the second half we went and Leeds almost pulled a goal back when Joost van Aken failed to clear a cross from Alioski and the ball fell to the feet of Lassoga however his shot hit the post and kept the score at 2-0.

Hooper then was threaded the ball through by Bannan for his hattrick but his shot was saved by Wiedwald.

Lee cleared a header from Jansson off the line and then Wildsmith made a crucial save to deny Alioski from scoring at his near post.

Bannan almost added a third when he was given the ball on the edge of the box, he turn and rifled his shot against the post.

The home side did get there all important third when Kieran Lee volleyed Euane O'Kane's chipped ball, that was intended for Sakho, into the bottom corner.

Hooper was again denied the match ball in the closing stages when his shot cannoned of the woodwork. This was the final chance of the game and Sheffield Wednesday ran out 3-0 winners.

#GAME28 30/09/17 Worksop Town 3-1 Hemsworth Miners Welfare

Worksop Town 3-1 Hemsworth Miners Welfare
Attendance: 452
Goals: Bishop (66’), Turner (75’), Denton (81’); Perks (4’)
Line-ups: Alexander; Hodder, Phillips, Liversidge, Chapell (Thompson); Woolley (Turner), Varley, Jepson, Bishop; Denton, Jordan (Higginson)

The Tigers come from behind to defeat Hemsworth Miners Welfare with a hard fought second half performance.

Nathan Perks opened the scoring very early on for the visitors but goals from Bishop, Turner and a penalty from Alec Denton in the second half secure three vital points for Worksop Town.

Welfare took the lead four minutes in when Nathan Perks received the ball on the edge of the box, the Hemsworth number nine turned his marker with ease and slotted his shot past Jason Alexander.

The first chance of a very poor half from the Tigers was when Steve Woolley’s 25 yard freekick looked destined to be a goal but the Hemsworth number one got a hand to his effort and palmed it out for a corner.

Debutant Matt Varley saw his volley go just wide of the post after the ball was punched to him from the corner after Woolley’s freekick.

On the half hour mark, Micah Bishop won possession off Schofield and crossed the ball, from the right, to the back post where Alec Denton was arriving, however the striker could not arrive in time to get a toe end on the cross.

The whistle for halftime went and the visitors went in 1-0 leaders. A bad first forty five minutes for the Tigers as described by Hindley ‘that first half is not a side that I put out’. However his halftime time team talk must have worked as Worksop came out for the second half like a different team to the first.

The pressure and high tempo pressing broke the well set up Welfare back four as the Tigers equalised in the 67th minute when Micah Bishop hopped over a challenge from the Hemsworth left-back, turned inside and fired his effort from the edge of the box into the bottom corner.

The pressure continued and the Tigers went in front in the 75th minute when Jepson’s in-swinging corner was met by the head of Jordan Turner, the initial header was saved however the substitute made no mistake second time round as the substitute smashed the ball into the back of the net, 2-1 to the Tigers!

Alec Denton secured all three points for Worksop nine minutes from time when he was knocked down by the Hemsworth defender in the box. The penalty was a awarded and Alec converted from 12 yards slotting it just past the reach of the keeper who guessed the right way.

#GAME27 24/09/17 Sheffield Wednesday 2-4 Sheffield United

SWFC: Westwood, Hunt, van Aken, Lees, Reach; Lee, Bannan, Jones (Joao), Wallace (Butterfield); Hooper, Fletcher (Rhodes)
SUFC: Blackman; Blackdock, Carter-Vickers, Wright (Duffy), O'Connell, Stevens; Coutts, Fleck, Basham, Clarke, Brooks (Lundstram)

United run out 4-2 victors in the 141st Steel City Derby

John Fleck broke the deadlock three minutes in when the Blades came up with a clever freekick routine, the ball was rolled to Fleck who smashed his shot into the bottom corner.

Their lead was doubled when Baldock sent a long ball forward up the ex-Owl Leon Clarke who had freedom to take it in his stride and slot it past Westwood. WHERE WAS THE WEDNESDAY DEFENCE!!

Gary Hooper pulled a goal back on the stroke of halftime. Wallace hooked the ball over from a Hunt chipped ball to Hooper who poked the ball past Jamal Blackman.

Wednesday were on level terms in the 65th minute when Joao was given the ball on the edge of the box, he subsequently rifled the ball into the roof of the net past Blackman.

Just as Wednesday were celebrating the equaliser, United took advantage of the Owls' vulnerability as Duffy slalomed his way past van Aken and smashed the ball home in front of the away following.

United wrapped up the Derby when Clarke wriggled his way between Lees and van Aken and lifted the ball over Westwood.

#GAME26 23/09/17 Worksop Town 3-0 Kirby Muxloe

Worksop Town 3-0 Kirby Muxloe
Goals: Denton (37’), Jordan (65’, 82’)
Attendance: 339
Lineup: Alexander; Woolley (Davies), Phillips, Liversidge, Chapell; Higginson (Hodder), Jepson, Barnett, Bishop; Denton (Turner), Jordan
Unused Subs: Valente, Boyd

It was FA Vase day and the Tigers fought all game to get their deserved win to go through to the next stage with a goal from Denton and a brace from man of the match Kyle Jordan.

The hosts had the first clear chance of the game when Jack Barnett tried his luck from 20 yards out when he aimed his shot towards the bottom right corner, the keeper saved the shot but spilt the ball into the path of KJ who hit it straight at the shot-stopper.

The stalemate was broken close to halftime when Jordan completely miss timed his shot when Bishop played the ball into his path, however the ball fell into the path of front man Alec Denton who fired past Warren Butlin (proving that it wasn’t a shot from Kyle, just a well timed pass ;) ).

Town almost doubled the lead a few moments later when Jed Phillips headed Woolley’s corner narrowly over the bar and Worksop went in at the break leading 1-0.

Denton and Higginson were both carrying knocks so Hindley replaced them with Turner and Hodder. Worksop were the dominant side in the second half. Bishop flew past the Kirby fullback but dragged his shot across the face of goal.

Worksop made it 2-0 in the 65th minute as Woolley crossed from the wing on to the head of Kyle Jordan who directed it over the keeper into the net. A perfectly executed header from Jordan.

Jordan wrapped up the tie with his second and Worksop’s third, eight minutes from time. Turner won possession on the left flank and skipped past two players before playing the ball over to an unmarked Jordan who took a touch and placed his shot into the bottom corner.

A steady and tight first half however that was in the shadows of how good the home side were in the second. A solid shift from every player. Jason Alexander stopped Kirby from getting even a sniff at goal with his presence in between the sticks by sweeping up their attacks and catching anything in the air that came to him (even though he should anyway being almost a foot taller than me XD ) but my man of the match has to be Kyle Jordan, a brace, an assist and genuinely ran himself into the ground, chasing for every ball and every cause. Excellent

#GAME25 19/09/17 Liversedge 0-1 Worksop Town

Liversedge 0-1 Worksop Town

Kyle Jordan takes his chance to score the only goal in the Tigers 1-0 victory against Liversedge
The hosts were unbeaten in the league prior to this fixture on a cold Tuesday night in Liversedge, and had proved to be a tough team to breakdown on the night.

The hosts went close five minutes in when striker Joe Walton received the ball with his back to goal, he spun his marker and bent his shot just wide of the Worksop goal.

Shortly after Worksop had their chance to take the lead. Firstly Jepson played a one-two ball with Higginson, his cross was headed out to Barnett whose first time shot struck the face of his own man Alec Denton, the ball fell to Woolley whose shot flashed past Jordan but he couldn’t get a touch and the ball ran out of play.

Boardman ran through on goal on the half hour mark after Jack Waters threaded the ball between Hill and Chapell, however 6ft 6” Alexander rushed off his line and blocked the shot magnificently with his feet. A minute later he saved again but this time from Walton’s curling effort.

On the stroke of halftime Tom Brook carried the ball all the way from his own half to the corner flag with an impressive run and cross for Devonte Morton but his header flashed across the goal and out for a goal kick. This was the final chance of the half and both teams went in goalless.

Kyle Jordan broke the deadlock just four minutes after the restart to net his second goal in as many games. Chapell played the ball down the wing for Bishop whose cross went untouched as it came across the face of goal, Jordan tried to chip the ball into the box but the ball was cleared back to him, KJ shifted the ball on to his left foot and proceeded to smash the ball past a hopeless Waggett for the games opening goal.

Worksop then had two great chances to double the lead when Woolley saw his left footed strike kissed the top of the crossbar. Then Micah Bishop danced his way to the edge of the box and rifled a fierce drive straight at the body of the keeper.

Lee Hill was sent for an early shower on the 72nd minute as the referee deemed his challenge too dangerous and gave Hilly a straight red. This meant Worksop had to get the bus parked and see out the 1-0 lead with ten men for the last twenty minutes.

Thompson and Walton had chances to equalise at the dying stages of the game. Thompson fired his shot from the right side of the area into the side netting. Then Walton then saw his shot again blocked by Alexander who had been a dominant figure in between the sticks all game and definitely earned his clean sheet.

Turner could of finally calmed the nerves of the Tigers faithful as he broke through one on one but the Liversedge number one came out the winner of the battle and left the fans biting what remained of their finger nails for the remaining minutes.

The Tigers put their bodies on the line and fought hard for their win. A good honest display with some good football played, Hindley showed his relief and passion with a fist pump and battlecry to the traveling Tigers after the full-time whistle.

Attendance: 152
Goals: Jordan (49’)
Lineup: Alexander, Woolley, Chapell, Jepson, Liversidge, Hill, Higginson (Davies), Barnett, Denton (Turner), Jordan (Boyd), Bishop
Sent off: Hill (72)

#GAME24 16/09/17 Staveley Miners Welfare 1-1 Worksop Town

Staveley Miners Welfare 1-1 Worksop Town
Substitute Kyle Jordan scored in the dying moments of the game to take a point back to Worksop.

It was a game of tennis regarding the chances created, end to end throughout the game.

Worksop opened the chances as Denton nicked the ball off Josh Madin and played it to Bishop who cut inside and curled his effort just wide of the post.

Jepson then had a chance from twenty five yards from a freekick however the shot was accurate but tame as Matty Leese caught the ball as he dived to his right.

Staveley went close after the half hour mark when Jack Turnball passed it to Robson Doolan who took the ball across his body and hit a left footed striker towards goal, however debutant Jason Alexander, who signed a few days previous to the game, parried his shot wide.

The big talking point of the game came when James Jepson spotted Leese off his line and executed a perfectly placed chip over the back-pedalling keeper. The ball hit the bar, bounced about two or three yards over the line and bounced back over. Everyone in the ground must have thought Worksop had took the lead but the ref gave nothing and the ball was cleared. This happened on the stroke of halftime and both teams went into the break goalless.

Staveley opened the scoring shortly after the break when the corner from Nelthorpe fell to the feet of an unmarked Ash Rawson and the captain fired into the top corner past Alexander.

Welfare almost doubled their lead five minutes later when Doolan was sent through on goal by his midfield partner but he dragged his shot wide of the keepers left. A few minutes later Josh Barker snuck his way in to the box only to fire across the face of goal.

Five minutes from time the Trojans had another great chance to claim all three points when front man Tyla Bell hit a peach of a volley towards the bottom right hand corner however Alexander was on hand to show his shot stopping class to save down low.

This would prove costly as the Tigers equalised to snatch a point from the hosts a minute from time. Alexander sent a long ball into the box, Wankiewicz rose highest and headed it down to Kyle Jordan who placed a lovely side footed volley into the bottom corner for 1-1.

A hard fought game finished honours even, it saw many fans glad to get the draw but furious with the referees decision-making throughout the game and to not allow Jepson’s strike.

Lineup: Alexander, Boyd (Jordan), Trench (Chapell), Jepson, Phillips, Wankiewicz, Davies (Barnett), Denton, Turner, Bishop
Unused Subs:
Goals: Jordan( 89’), Rawson (51’)

#GAME23 14/09/17 Worksop Town U19s 3-2 Gainsborough Trinity U19s

Worksop Town U19s 3-2 Gainsborough Trinity U19s

A brilliant performance from the Tigers as the youngsters run out late winners against Gainsborough Trinity’s under 19s.

Gainsborough went two goals ahead in the opening twenty minutes through Birkelund and Szanto but Worksop clawed their way back with goals from Gee, Pritchard and Stead, the latters goal coming three minutes from fulltime.

Trinity were straight out of the blocks as Brad Mears slotted the ball through to Marcus Birkelund to finish past Callum Fielding.

Worksop came back swinging and the dominance from the Tigers began to kick in. Mason Gee had two chances inside two minutes of each other. First his freekick from 25 yards was palmed wide from the keepers right as it was sneaking in the corner, then Gee slalomed his way through the Gainsborough backline and hit a shot but the keeper got down to his effort.

As Worksop were on top, Trinity sneaked in the second as Vieiria sent through Szanto who rifled his shot into the back of the net to put the visitors 2-0 up.

It only took the hosts two minutes to pull a goal back thanks to a lovely solo effort as Gee left three Gainsborough players for dead, turned Abdubraheen and then slotted it past Harrison Crabtree.

Gee and Hurcombe both had chances to equalise on the stroke of halftime, Gee almost recreated his goal by toying with the defence but his shot struck the bar and fell into the path of Ryan Hurcombe who snatched at his shot and hit it across the face of goal.

Two minutes after the restart Callum Fielding saved brilliantly from Szanto as he crept past his marker, this would be Gainsborough’s last chance before Worksop went into cruise control.

Liam Pritchard equalised on 70 minutes as he headed home unmarked at the back post following Igor Mlynarski’s mazy run down the wing and cross.

Mlynarski almost added a goal to his previous assist as his driven shot was parried away from goal by ex-Tiger Ed Birch who replaced Harrison Crabtree between the sticks at halftime.

The team in Amber and Black got their well deserved winner through Owen Stead as the clock struck 87 minutes, the midfielder volleyed the ball home following a game of head tennis in the box after a corner kick.

A fantastic performance from the Worksop Town Under 19s who gave their all and played for the shirt. Manager Jonathan Bownes believed the squads strength in depth and the effort shown was key to the win, he said afterwards 'The first five minutes they looked a great side and I don’t think we touched the ball before it went into the back of our net. Obviously we went 2-0 down and at that point the team spirt could have gone two ways, you can either dig in or you can crumble and I thought we dug in tonight. We went in at halftime at 2-1, I asked the lads what they wanted and I said what me and Lee wanted from them and they executed the game plan in the second half. I think all the subs made a big difference tonight; Holden, Smith and Larder showed us that we have great strength in depth and hopefully we showed the team spirit we wanted to show'.
After a thrilling opening win to kickoff the league campaign, we now turn our attention to the next round of the FA Youth Cup away at Bottesford Town (Thursday 21st September, 7.45pm kickoff). Jon gave his thoughts on the upcoming fixture ‘It’s a difficult one because of the age difference, we have to have an overhaul of the squad as ten of tonight’s squad aren’t eligible and me and Lee will have a sit down and think about the best possible squad we can pick. Again we have great strength in depth and quality all the way through. Bottesford are an unknown quantity and we know nothing about them so I’m looking forward to the game, it should be a good experience for our lads’.
Bownes then expressed the importance of the FA Youth Cup and shared his own experience of playing in the competition, ‘I can only speak from experience as I played for Worksop Town in the same cup and we went through three or four rounds, we drew Marine away and we still talk about that moment now. I don’t think the lads know how special the FA Cup and the FA Youth Cup are and how good they are to play in so for me it’s about the occasion. We need to embrace the game and not leave the pitch thinking we should of won that tie, we should come off thinking we gave our all and get the result we want’.

Brentford: Bentley; Daalsgard, Egan, Barbet, Henry; Clarke (Jozefzoon), Woods, Sawyers, Yennaris (Shaibu), Watkins (McEachran); Maupay
Unused Subs: Daniels, Bjelland, Mokotjo, Chatzitheodoridis

A nervy ending for the Owls as they come from behind to defeat struggling Brentford.

Brentford opened the scoring when the ball came to ex-Arsenal midfielder Nico Yannaris on the edge of the box following a headed clearance by Hooper from the corner. Yennaris hit a sweet volley that fizzed off the gloves of Keiren Westwood into the net. An rare mistake for the Irish international.

Wallace then tried his luck when he took Fletchers back heel in his stride, he slalomed past two or three defenders and then saw his right footed shot saved by Daniel Bentley. Bentley made another great save from the resulting corner as Tom Lees rose highest in the box to head towards goal.

Shortly after it was Westwood’s turn to show his class as Yennaris threaded through Neal Maupay on goal however his left footed shot was palmed wide by the Wednesday number one.

Again Brentford had a great chance when Sawyers shot was blocked by van Aken into the path of Maupay who should have at least got his effort on target but he snatched at it and put it wide.

Wednesday were level on the stroke of halftime when Reach played the ball into Gary Hooper in the middle who then cut across the defender and lifted the ball over the keeper, both Hooper and the defenders followed the shot and Bees Captain John Egan slid in to stop the shot however it hit the post and fell back to Hooper who confirmed his third goal in successive games.

Kieren Lee had a chance to put Wednesday ahead as he was sent through by Bannan but the midfielder hit his shot straight at Bentley.

Wednesday got their winner in the 70th minute when a corner was headed across goal by Wallace, he then got the return header from Jordan Rhodes back across goal for Ross to smash into the roof of the net.

In the dying moments Brentford almost grabbed a point from the hosts when Maupay chested the ball and half-volleyed his shot on to the post. That was it and the Owls walked out 2-1 winners. And ugly win but a wins a win I suppose.

#GAME21 09/09/17 Sheffield Wednesday 3-1 Nottingham Forest

Sheffield Wednesday 3-1 Nottingham Forest- Hooper (23’), Fletcher (63’), Lee (70’)
Attendance: 25,710
My Man of the Match: Kieran Lee
Lineup: Westwood; Hunt, van Aken, Lees, Reach; Wallace, Lee (Butterfield), Jones, Bannan; Hooper (Rhodes), Fletcher (Boyd)
Unused Subs: Wildsmith, Palmer, Pudil, Joao

Sheffield Wednesday shine in their first game back from the international break after they beat Nottingham Forest 3-1

Wednesday had a bundle of chances in the opening minutes as Hunt ran down the wing and produced a low cross to Gary Hooper but he got too much on it and hit it into the side netting.

Shortly after, Wallace delivered a pin point cross to Steven Fletcher who saw his volley saved by the Forest keeper.

The team in blue took the lead when Smith’s failed cross fell to the feet of Bannan who slotted the ball through to Hooper who rolled the defender and finished perfectly past the keeper.

Forest were level on the stroke of halftime when Ben Osborn skipped over the challenge of van Aken to fire the ball past a stranded Keiren Westwood.

Forest almost went ahead as Bereton saw his curling effort headed off the line by Tom Lees after the young lad had beaten goalkeeper Westwood.

Wednesday took the lead for the second time in the game when Kieran Lee’s corner was met by the head of Steven Fletcher whose bullet header beat the keeper.

The points were in the bag seven minutes later as Darikwa cleared Hunts cross into the body of Worrall and the ball trickled to Lee who finished from 8 yards out.

A solid performance from the Owls and the perfect reaction after recent poor displays.

#GAME20 06/09/17 Worksop Town 5-3 Harrogate Railway Athletic

Worksop Town 5-3 Harrogate Railway Athletic- Simpson (18’), Denton (59’, 80’), Bishop (63’, 83’)
ATT: 369
Man of the Match: Alec Denton
Lineup: Kennedy; Hodder, Wankievicz, Phillips, Trench; Woolley (Simpson), Husbands (Liversidge), Bishop; Denton (Jordan), Higginson

The Tigers score 5 goals in two consecutive games as they defeat Harrogate Railway 5-3 to move up to fifth in the table.

Harrogate drew first blood as Hamilton threaded through the Worksop backline and then placed his shot past Jon Kennedy who was rooted to the spot.

Shortly after Captain Steve Woolley limped off the field holding his hamstring and was replaced by Simpson who slotted in up top, moving Conor Higginson on to the Right flank. Them two both combined five minutes later as Higgo won the ball off the oppositions midfielder and sent Simpson through on goal to tuck the ball into the bottom left corner of the net.

Moments before halftime Micah Bishop turned his marker and rifled his shot only inches past the wrong side of the post and both teams went in at halftime level.

Like the first half the visitors went into lead again four minutes after the restart as the ball dropped to an unmarked Brad Swain who only had to tap his shot in the net.

The team in Black and Amber equalised as Denton accelerated past the Railway right back and hit a ferocious shot past the goalkeeper and make it 2-2.

The home side were ahead for the first time in the game as Higginson put the ball on a plate for Micah Bishop to smash into the net at the back post.

However the visitors weren’t prepared to give up that easily when ex-Doncaster Rovers Striker Jason Price was on hand to walk the ball into the net when he was sent through on goal from his strike partner.

Worksop were back in the lead when Denton played the ball across the face of goal for Bishop to smash the ball into the net again like a carbon copy of Micah’s first goal of the evening.

Alec Denton put the Tigers faithful’s nerves and the game to bed when he spun his marker and hit a thunderous shot over the keeper into the roof of the net to make it 5-3.

Defensive errors almost cost Hindley’s men but the offensive trio of Higginson, Denton and Bishop prove too much for the Harrogate outfit to handle.

#GAME19 02/09/17 Clipstone 0-5 Worksop Town

Clipstone 0-5 Worksop Town- Higginson (46, 57), Bishop (60,90), Jordan (90)
ATT: 225
Lineup: Kennedy; Hodder, Wankievicz, Phillips, Trench; Woolley (Booth), Thompson, Husbands, Bishop; Higginson (Greenfield), Denton (Jordan)
Unused Subs: Chapell, Hindley

I missed the first half hour of the game due to us supporters who carried on and battled our way to Clipstone despite how knackered we were. Despite it being tough, I enjoyed it and was very proud to eventually get through them turnstiles and I was overwhelmed with the support and claps we got as we came in. Thank you to everyone who has sponsored us and thank you to the guys as we all kept encouraging each other to finish you were brilliant.

Denton slipped through unnoticed past the Clipstone backline but the Cobras keeper saved with his legs and then the ball was headed away from goal.

Worksop were straight out of the blocks in the second half as Higginson poked Bishops cross into the back of the net one minute after the restart, Clipstone seemed to fall to pieces after that.

Higginson bagged his brace when the ball settled on the edge of the box for Higgo to curl his left footed shot past the keeper.

It was soon 3-0 as Husbands sent a ball over the defence of Clipstone to Micah Bishop who accurately lobbed the keeper.

Bishop played a ball to Greenfield down the wing who then crossed the ball for Kyle Jordan to head home at the back post to make it 4-0.

Bishop put the final nail in Clipstones coffin went he took on two defenders and rifled the ball past the keeper for the fifth.

#GAME18 31/08/17 Worksop Town U19s 4-1 Sports Recuitment USA

Game 18// Thursday 31st August 2017
Worksop Town Under 19s 4-1 Sports Recruitment USA
An impressive performance from the Under 19s proves too much for Sports Recruitment USA as the Young Tigers run out 4-1 winners.
The visitors made to brighter start as Josh Street skipped his way through the Tigers back line however Callum Fielding was quick off his line to close him down and keep out the shot. Street made a nuisance of himself once again as he crossed the ball for Paulos Beraki who could only volley his shot wide.

The Tigers had a good chance of there own as Pritchard switched the ball over to Luke Smith at the back post but the youngster could only head into the side netting.

Worksop opened the scoring when Jack Holden’s first initial shot was saved by the keeper but as the ball came back to Jack he managed to poke it through for Liam Pritchard to slot into an empty net.

The Tigers doubled their lead from the restart as playmaker Jack Holden saw his left footed volley nestle into the bottom corner. Three minutes later, Holden saw his shot parried wide by Tom Molloy as he tried his luck this time with his right peg from the edge of the area.

Worksop added a third with arguably the best goal of the game when highly rated forward Mason Gee rolled his marker on the edge of the box and unleashed an unstoppable curling effort into the top right hand corner out of the goalkeepers reach.

Substitute Bailey Hall added the fourth of the night as he had a simple tap in at the back post. SR USA scored in the dying moments when number 14 Josh Street took the ball down with his chest and struck a thunderous half-volley past Jake Woodward, this was only a consolation and the game ended 4-1.
A very impressive display from the Tigers as they played the ball around perfectly and created many chances.
Now the Worksop Town U19s turn there attention the the FA Youth Cup next week against Garforth Town on Thursday 7th September at Sandy Lane. Come down and support the lads, it would be incredible to break the 100 mark for the attendance next week!!
After the game I caught up with SR USA’s Chris Cousins about his thoughts on the game and how SR USA help young players. ‘I thought it was good, obviously there were lots of substitutions due to it being a preseason friendly for Worksop and it gave us the chance to look at our trailists and get some good footage of them, our lads have never met each other before. It took about 60 minutes for Worksop to get into the game but after that they were the better team and had some good players which I’m not sure if they’re getting a look in for the first team as a couple should be. I really enjoyed it, a great club with great hospitality’.
‘We help footballers go to America to get scholarships. We get players released from professional clubs as well as lads who are good but not with professional clubs and we use matches like today to look at these players, we will work with about 50 players a year. We scout the world and next week we are off to Dubai which will be a bit different to Worksop’.
Attendance: 63
Goals: Pritchard (35), Holden (46), Gee (65), Hall (73); Street (87)
Starting XI: Fielding, Hurcombe, Walker, Boyd, Blythe, Stead, Gee, Holden, Williams, Smith, Pritchard

ATT: 175
MOTM: Alec Denton
Lineup: Kennedy; Hodder, Wankievicz, Phillips, Trench; Parkin, Woolley, Husbands (Bishop); Simpson (Greenfield), Booth, Denton...
Unused Subs: Rickards and Hindley

Worksop suffer a battering at the hands of table leaders Pontefract Collieries.
The Tigers made the 35 mile journey up to Pontefract Collieries and returned with a spanking and no points as Pontefract ran out 5-1 victors.

Worksop started the brighter though as they went a goal ahead when Booth played the ball out-wide to Mitch Husbands to cross perfectly for debutant Alec Denton, who signed from Handsworth Paramore on Monday, to execute a left footed volley into the back of the net.

Pontefract were level just after 20 minutes when the ball was headed into the path of Ash Emmett who smashed his shot into the top corner past a hopeless Jon Kennedy.

Emmett bagged his brace ten minutes later when he was sent through on goal to finely place the ball over the Tigers keeper.

Denton almost levelled when his chipped effort was headed off the line by the Colls right back after the keeper was beaten in the air by Matt Booth. Subsequently Wankievicz saw his volley attempt palmed over by Ryan Mussellwhite following a corner.

Pontefract added a third as Jimmy Williams’ free header from the corner flew past Kennedy who was routed to the spot and the hosts went in at halftime 3-1 up.

Pontefract swept any signs of a miraculous Worksop comeback under the carpet as captain Mark Whitehouse unleashed an unstoppable effort from around 30 yards to make it 4-1 seven minutes after the restart.

The game was put to bed when prolific striker Eli Hey rifled the ball past the Tigers number one just before fulltime and the game finished 5-1.

#GAME16 26/08/17 Worksop Town 0-2 Albion Sports

GAME 16// Worksop Town 0-2 Albion Sports
A Birthday Defeat for the gaffer as Albion Sports take all three points.
All the goal came in the first half from Habeeb and Redmond to win it for a strong Albion team. The second half was much more stale as Albion were happy to sit back and absorb pressure put on by the Tigers.

Albion went a goal up nine minutes in as the ball deflected into the path of Omar Habeeb who rounded Jon Kennedy and rolled the ball into the back of the net.

Worksop instantly went in search for the equaliser as Phillips connected with Jack Barnetts in-swinging corner, however his effort was headed off the line by an Albion defender. Albion responded to that chance by counter attacking towards the Tigers box and striking the post.

Shortly after Simpson had two great chances to level. Firstly he was sent through one-on-one with Lofthouse but the Albion keeper blocked. Then three minutes later Jordan threaded him through, Simpson turned Basi inside out but yet again the keeper won the battle and saved his shot.

Albion doubled their lead in the 38th minute when Liversidge failed to clear a bouncing ball and striker Lee Redmond got a toe on the ball to lift the ball over Kennedy into the net and Albion lead the game 2-0 into halftime.

The second half was much duller as Albion were sitting back and just breaking hoping to catch Worksop out. Trench put in a few great challenges as Josh Barden and Smith both broke down each wing on two different occasions.

Thompson then saw his effort caught as he unleashed a snapshot from 30 yards out. After an hour Kennedy pulled off a great save as Redmond burst through on goal. Stephen Smith saw red when he kick the ball away after conceding a foul and received his second yellow.

Chances were created for Worksop however they struggled to find any sort of finishing product and the game ended 2-0 to the visitors.

Lineup: Kennedy, Hodder, Trench, Thompson, Phillips, Liversidge, Greenfield (Woolley), Barnett, Simpson, Jordan (Husbands), Bishop (Chapell)
Unused Subs: Parkin, Wankiewicz
Bookings: Trench (74)
ATT: 339

#GAME15 22/08/17 Handsworth Parramore 2-1 Worksop Town

Handsworth Parramore 2-1 Worksop Town- Jordan (66)
ATT: 459
Lineup: Kennedy; Woolley, Liversidge (Turner), Wankiewicz, Phillips, Trench; Thompson, Barnett, Husbands (Bishop), Jordan, Simpson

The first Sandy Lane Derby of the season ended in defeat for the Tigers as the Amber Parras ran out 2-1 victors.
There was sheer disappointment around the Tigers faithful as they felt hard done to from how the game panned out and with how the referee conducted himself. A fairly timid first half with only a few chances however the second half sparked into life with three goals and and two yellow cars (with a further red given after the final whistle).
The opening stages were
very possession based and it seemed that both sides were happy to see each other pass the ball around and figure each other out. The first real chance came when Jed Phillips picked up the ball 35 yards out and hit a ferocious shot that struck the post.
Parramore took the lead when the Tigers failed to deal with an in-swinging corner and Froggatt was on hand to volley home. Town were level when Wankiewicz’s header rebounded off the post to the feet of Kyle Jordan who placed it home. However it wasn’t long until Handsworth got their winner as Aaron Moxam was sent through on goal to slot neatly into the corner.
Shortly after the first dismissal of the game and the season for the Tigers came when Matty Thompson misjudged his timing as he wiped out the Parramore winger and picked up his second yellow.
Worksop could and probably should have had a penalty when Jordan Turner was ragged to the ground as he went for a header, the ref gave nothing and booked Turner and Jordan in the aftermath.
In stoppage time Jordan was given his marching orders when he received a second yellow card when he pushed an opposing player and the game ended 2-1. Blythen was given a red after the game as the arguments carried on.
