The Tigers come from behind to defeat Hemsworth Miners Welfare with a hard fought second half performance.

Nathan Perks opened the scoring very early on for the visitors but goals from Bishop, Turner and a penalty from Alec Denton in the second half secure three vital points for Worksop Town.

Welfare took the lead four minutes in when Nathan Perks received the ball on the edge of the box, the Hemsworth number nine turned his marker with ease and slotted his shot past Jason Alexander.

The first chance of a very poor half from the Tigers was when Steve Woolley’s 25 yard freekick looked destined to be a goal but the Hemsworth number one got a hand to his effort and palmed it out for a corner.

Debutant Matt Varley saw his volley go just wide of the post after the ball was punched to him from the corner after Woolley’s freekick.

On the half hour mark, Micah Bishop won possession off Schofield and crossed the ball, from the right, to the back post where Alec Denton was arriving, however the striker could not arrive in time to get a toe end on the cross.

The whistle for halftime went and the visitors went in 1-0 leaders. A bad first forty five minutes for the Tigers as described by Hindley ‘that first half is not a side that I put out’. However his halftime time team talk must have worked as Worksop came out for the second half like a different team to the first.

The pressure and high tempo pressing broke the well set up Welfare back four as the Tigers equalised in the 67th minute when Micah Bishop hopped over a challenge from the Hemsworth left-back, turned inside and fired his effort from the edge of the box into the bottom corner.

The pressure continued and the Tigers went in front in the 75th minute when Jepson’s in-swinging corner was met by the head of Jordan Turner, the initial header was saved however the substitute made no mistake second time round as the substitute smashed the ball into the back of the net, 2-1 to the Tigers!

Alec Denton secured all three points for Worksop nine minutes from time when he was knocked down by the Hemsworth defender in the box. The penalty was a awarded and Alec converted from 12 yards slotting it just past the reach of the keeper who guessed the right way.
