Game 44 // 14/11/18 -Sheff UTD U19s 6-0 Worksop Town U19s

Sheffield United 6-0 Worksop Town

Poor showing from the Tigers as the Blades cruise to victory.

United missed an early penalty but took the lead just before the break. In the second period, the home side purged to victory to beat Worksop Town 6-0.

The Blades had the first opportunity of the game. Liam Smart misjudged his clearance which fell into the path of Sam Alkroyd who cut across the body of Smith before dragging his shot wide of the post.

Sheffield United were awarded a penalty just after six minutes. Reon Potts darted into box where he was thwarted by the sliding challenge of Deegan Atherton. Sammy Ompreon stepped up but saw his spot kick kiss the post as his attempt went wide.

Moments later, Deegan Atherton glanced Jack Charlesworth’s corner just past the far post.

Clark Greaves then forced James Gamble into a save at his near post. Alfie Smith sliced his clearance into the path of the winger whose shot was patted away from Gamble’s top right corner by the number one.

Sammy Ompreon then cut in from the right and then rifled a shot towards the bottom corner but Gamble got down quickly to hold.

After twenty minutes, The Tigers broke away from United’s early pressure and almost conjured up a chance to open the scoring. Alfie Dodsworth cut open the home side’s backline to play Darien down the left where he cut in and crossed towards the back post. Liam Smart collected the ball and took it past Tom Weaver before floating it towards the back stick where Darien was just inches away from connecting with the header and the chance went begging.

On the hour mark, Tom Weaver was in space in the box when the ball fell to the centre-half from Potts’ corner. Weaver’s shot beat Gamble but was superbly blocked on the line by Jay Evison and the ball was cleared.

With five minutes remaining, skipper Alfie Smith looped his header over the bar after beating the offside trap to connect with Charlesworth’s delivery.

James Gamble then produced a magnificent save to deny Ompreon from point blank range.

‪United opened the scoring close to half-time. Clark Greaves burst down the right to latch onto a defence splitting through-ball, from Potts, before squaring it for Sam Alkroyd to tap home. ‬‬‬‬‬

The half-time whistle sounded with the team in red and white leading by only one goal.

Ten minutes after the restart, Tom Weaver dinked a ball into the middle for Jack Stainrod who saw his header saved down low by the Tigers keeper.

On the hour mark, Ryan Delello struck a thunderous volley, from twenty-five yards, which needed to be pushed over by Sam Kelly.

In the sixty fourth minute, United doubled their lead. James Gamble could only parry Reon Potts’ long ranged effort into the air where an unmarked Jack Stainrod was on hand to poke past the keeper

‪Three minutes later, a third was added to the home side’s tally. Gamble poorly lost possession on the edge of the box which allowed Sam Alkroyd to power into an open goal‬‬‬ for his brace. ‬‬

‪United rubbed salt into the Tigers wounds when Potts quickly slipped Harry Boyes down the left flank from a free-kick. The full-back subsequently fizzed it towards the back stick where Stainrod stroked home his second. ‬‬‬‬

Isaac Darien finally broke free from the United dominance to hammer a distanced shot just inches over the bar.

Moments later, Aaron Mushet cut in from the left but hit a tame effort towards goal which was easily stopped by Harrison Foulstone.

As we entered the last quarter, Liam Smart was dispossessed by Stainrod who accelerated towards goal but fluffed his shot wide.

‪Alkroyd completed his hat-trick three minutes from time as he tucked home the rebound after Gamble saved from Ompreon. ‬‬‬

In stoppage time, the Blades rounded off the goals with a header from Javelle Clark from which the keeper got fingertips too but it wasn’t enough as the ball bounced off the underside of the bar and over the line.

The full-time whistle went to the relief of the Tigers.
