Game 9 28/07/18 - Goole AFC 2-2 Belper Town

Goole AFC 2-2 Belper Town

Goole fight back twice to draw

Belper Town opened the scoring in the sixth minute. Captain Alex Paterson took Jake Sturgess’ excellent ball over the top in his stride and advanced towards goal before slotting it past the keeper. Lund scampered back and cleared the ball away however, the lineman indicated to the referee that the ball had crossed the line.

Ten minutes later, Marcel Chigamora entered the field and almost made an instant impact as he replaced an injured Goole forward. Chigamora accelerated down the right to latch onto an Alex Varley pump upfield. The pacey forward entered the box before turning out then in but then hit his effort into the sidenetting.

Goole were on level terms thanks to their player/manager Derry Robson. Robson found himself in acres of space and tried his luck from around twenty-five yards out. The shot managed to slip past the keeper and into his bottom right corner.

Just after the half hour mark, the away side regained the lead. Belper broke down the right with Danny Gordon who, as he neared the byline, cut the ball back to Nathan Curtis who subsequently squared the ball for Marcus Day to slam home past Joe Wilton.

Robson had a glorious chance to equalise once again. He brought down a ball over the top beautifully but ended up firing just wide of the far post.

The final chance of the half fell to the host’s. Mark Purvis delivered a perfectly weighted free-kick towards the far end of the six yard box where Adam Lund rose highest but headed it just over the bar.

Ten minutes after the restart, A poor Goole corner was headed out to Josh Eastwood. Eastwood took a touch before hammering a long range shot towards goal which took a small deflection but was superbly saved and held by Beardmore.

Belper could have extended their lead on the sixty-fifth minute. Marcus Day swung a lovely cross towards the middle where an unmarked Peterson got a toe-end on the ball but he didn’t get enough on it to send it in as the ball continued its flight and went out for a goal-kick.

Goole equalised with fifteen minutes to go. Marcel Chigamora was unleashed through on goal by Max Tweddle. Chigamora darted towards the net before stroking his shot past an outrushing Beardmore.

Belper almost won the game on the stroke of full-time. Jordan Eldridge managed to weave his way through the Goole midfield and backline. Eldridge pulled the trigger but Eastwood slid in and deflected the effort onto the post and out.

The full-time whistle went minutes later.

Belper Town take on Coalville Town at home in their first game of the 2018/19 season. Goole welcome Worksop Town in their first game after relegation from the Evo-Stik.

Game 8 27/07/18 - Worksop Town 0-0 Mickleover Sports

Worksop Town 0-0 Mickleover Sports

Tigers hold NPL outfit to a draw

A highly contested affair ended in stalemate at Sandy Lane as both sides defended very well.

The visitors almost took the lead in the opening stages. Evan Garnett latched onto Turners through-ball but the pacey striker saw his shot saved well by Francis who deflected it wide.

Ten minutes later, Nathan Jarman saw his fierce strike, from the edge of the area, excellently tipped over by Francis.

Mickleover were holding the ball for long periods of time however, when the Tigers did get the ball, they created many good chances with it. Tomas Poole, who was electric all night, knocked the ball past his marker before teeing up Templeton whose left footed strike went just over the bar.

On the half hour mark, A trialist from Mickleover took advantage of a Liam Royles lapse in concentration. The number two took the ball down on to his left peg before curling his shot onto the post.

Another trialist also took the lead on thirty-nine minutes. The number eight wrong footed Max Pemberton and then saw his curling effort just go over the bar and land on the top of the net.

On the stroke of half-time, Templeton took the ball away from his marker before seeing his thunderous strike cannon off the post and out for a goal-kick.

The second half began with Mickleover Sports almost breaking the deadlock. The number eight incepted an under-hit pass and bursted towards goal. As he was about to pull the trigger, Matt Reay raced back and made a vital tackle to deny the Sports trialist.

Five minutes into the second period, Worksop missed from the spot. Tom Burgin handled Tom Poole’s shot in the area leaving the referee no choice but to point to the spot. Simpson stepped up but saw his penalty parried away by the keeper.

There were chances at both ends of the field on fifty-four minutes. Firstly, Tom Burgin saw his header saved and then caught by Francis. The ball was pumped upfield and found its way to Goodwin who saw his fierce strike saved down low by the keeper.

The last ten minutes were completely dominated by Mickleover as the Tigers seemed to have burnt out.

Nathan Jarman made himself space for a shot but saw his chance blocked by Matt Reay which took a lot of the pace off the ball allowing substitute James Gamble to pick up the ball with ease.

Garnett then forced another save out of the keeper. Garnett played a one-two with Jarman before seeing his powerful effort held by Gamble towards his midriff.

Nial Doran almost snatched it right at the end of the game. Doran cut in from the right and rifled a shot towards the bottom right which was superbly parried wide by Gamble.

The referee brought proceedings to a halt with the game ending as a draw.

Game 7 25/07/18 - Worksop Town 2-1 Sheffield F.C.

Worksop Town 2-1 Sheffield F.C.

Tigers beat F.C. in strong performance

Town opened the scoring six minutes into the game through Matt Sykes. Sheffield F.C. equalised through Jamie Yates but thanks to a goalkeeping mistake by Jamie Ingham, the Tigers won the friendly.
The Tigers started the game with high intensity and had two chances to take the lead in the opening stages.

Firstly, Matt Sykes saw his first time shot bravely blocked by Magee after a Pemberton long throw.

Then, Mark Simpson brought down Price’s over the top ball and sharply cut across his marker before bending his shot just wide of the upright.

Town opened the scoring six minutes into the game. Deegan Atherton delivered a pinpoint accurate cross towards the back stick where Matt Sykes was on hand to squeeze his volley past Ingham.

Just before the half hour point, Steve Woolley slipped Simpson down the right wing. Simpson subsequently dinked the ball over to Kyle Jordan whose shot seemed to take a deflection before going wide of the post.

Sheffield F.C. had their first opportunity ten minutes before the break. Waide Fairhurst saw his free-kick, which was fairly central and around twenty-five yards away from goal, beat the wall but disappointingly for the visitors it continued to rise and the effort flew high over the bar.

The Tigers kept the ball well for the rest of the half and restricted the away side’s possession and attacking prowess.

Sheffield’s best chance of the game so far came minutes after the restart. Ehsan Mohammed cut inside from the right wing and hit a stinging shot towards the bottom corner which was well kept out by David Reay.

Jordan almost doubled the lead moments later. Brad Wilson curled an a wonderful cross towards the left-hand side of the six yard box where Kyle Jordan rose highest and headed the ball across goal and just inches over the bar.

Soon after, Matty Templeton almost extended Worksop’s scoreline. Templeton teased his marker before cutting onto his favoured left foot and drilled a shot across goal which went just wide of the far post.

On the hour mark, new signing for ‘the worlds first’ Mitchell Dunne, from Hallam FC, dropped the shoulder, cut in across the body of Pemberton, but saw his effort saved and held down low by Reay.

Midfielder Ross Goodwin almost netted against his former club. Tomas Poole threaded Goodwin through on goal however, good defending from Magee meant the shot was blocked and allowed Ingham to pick up the shot with ease.

Sheffield equalised with twenty-minutes to go. Jamie Yates received a short F.C. corner just left of the box. Yates proceeded to run along the edge of the area before curling an accurate shot beyond the reach of Reay.

However the friendly didn’t stay level long as three minutes later, Town reclaimed the lead thanks to a goalkeeping error. Harley Wilson’s through-ball, which was intended for Templeton, ran through straight to the keeper. With was seemed as a lapse of concentration, Ingham miss-controlled the pass and the ball rolled into the bottom corner.

The final chance of the game fell to the host’s. Connor Brunt spotted that Ingham was on the edge of his box and attempted an audacious effort from halfway. The chance was over hit though and the ball flew over the stand.

The full-time whistle went to confirm another pre-season win for the Tigers. Worksop next take on Mickleover Sports on Friday, 27th July at Sandy Lane.

Game 6 24/07/18 - Mansfield Town 2-1 Sheffield Wednesday

Mansfield Town 2-1 Sheffield Wednesday

Stags beat the Owls before an unfriendly ending

Benning opened the scoring just before half-time. Hamilton then saw his cross deflect off Adam Reach and in for the home side’s second goal before Reach netted for Wednesday minutes later. At the end of the game a brawl between both sides broke out to add an ugly finish.

The first chance of the game fell to the visitors. Barry Bannan’s over the top ball was misjudged by Benning as he headed the cross into the path of Liam Palmer however the wing back saw his soft effort caught by Conrad Logan at the near post.

Moments later, Liam Palmer cut the ball back for Atdhe Nuhiu. The Kosovan international cut across his marker and disappointingly curled his effort wide of the top left-hand corner.

The hosts had a golden opportunity to take the lead twenty minutes in. Jacob Mellis dinked the ball over the top to CJ Hamilton, who had escaped the attention of the Wednesday back-line, but the winger failed to take the opportunity as his volleyed effort was scuffed wide.

The League Two side almost took the lead on the half hour mark. Hamilton once again got in behind the Owls defence however as he pulled the trigger, Morgan Fox bravely dove in and blocked the effort sending it out for a corner. A minute later, Otis Khan saw his cross into the box diverted towards goal by Atdhe Nuhiu but luckily for the away side, Cameron Dawson was alert to push the chance over the bar from close range.

The Stags took the lead just before the break. Liam Palmer made an excellent block to deny Khan however the ball fell to Malvind Benning who struck a fierce effort across goal which hit the inside of the post and went in.

The second half started with the Owls missing an almost certain equaliser. Liam Palmer latched onto Barry Bannan’s through-ball and delivered an accurate low cross to Atdhe Nuhiu who somehow hit the woodwork from six yards out.

Things got worse for the team in blue and white as Mansfield doubled their lead. CJ Hamilton beat Adam Reach to an MacDonald pump upfield. Hamilton saw his cross deflect off Adam Reach and fly past the wrong footed Cameron Dawson.

Reach then pulled one back for the Owls minutes later. Reach volleyed a cross along the edge of the area towards goal with his weak foot. He saw his thunderous strike defect off Krystian Pearce and past Logan.

There was a penalty shout for the Championship side with ten minutes remaining. Bannan threaded Fernando Forestieri through on goal. As Forestieri was about to pull the trigger, he was brought down by Hamilton but the referee waved play on.

Walker then could have sealed the win for his team. Walker took aim from outside the box and saw his effort saved by Dawson. Left-back Benning then fired his follow-up effort wide.

The friendly turned ugly with minutes remaining. Following a late challenge on Hayden White, many players surrounded Fernando Forestieri with Krystian Pearce in particular being the most aggressive and was sent off.

The referee ended proceedings bang on the ninetieth minute mark but another brawl spilled out when a Mansfield substitute charged at Forestieri from the bench. Tempers flared until other players split the culprits away from each other and escorted down the tunnel.

Wednesday next take on Villarreal at Hillsborough this Saturday, 28th July. Where as Mansfield Town take on Rotherham United at Field Mill also on Saturday.

Game 5 19/07/18 - Harworth Colliery 0-3 Worksop Town

Harworth Colliery 0-3 Worksop Town

Both sides were coming into this friendly after a defeat in their previous run out. Colliery lost 1-0 to Clipstone, where as the Tigers impressed in their 2-1 defeat at Evo-Stik outfit Cleethorpes Town.

Harworth included several ex-Tigers in their squad. Jay Bownes, Bruno Holden and Josh Davies all started the game with under 19 graduates Igor Mlynarski, Alex Boyd and Luke Black all featuring off the bench.

Worksop took the lead in the opening two minutes. A lovely passing play started with Kyle Jordan as he squared the ball to Connor Smythe who quickly played through Mark Simpson where ‘Simmo’ took a touch before coolly stroking the ball past the keeper.

The Tigers were showing off their class as another excellent passing move almost ended with their second in five minutes. Jordan chased down, and won, an over hit cross from Simpson. Jordan was bundled over by the defender and as the referee gave nothing, Trench stole the ball and pulled it back to Price who subsequently threaded Jordan through on goal when he got up. Jordan set himself before seeing his curling effort go just inches wide of the upright.

The visitors doubled their lead fifteen minutes in. Trench pumped a high ball towards the edge of the area and, in what seemed to be the keepers ball, Mark Simpson accelerated towards it with his deadly pace which caused Hooley to hesitate and allowed Simpson too poke the ball over the keeper. Simpson shifted around the keeper and then headed into the net for his second goal in his first game since returning from Garforth Town.

Harworth had their first sniff at goal moments later. Colliery won a corner after Atherton closed down and made a crucial challenge in order to stop Holden from getting his shot away. Josh Davies fizzed in a corner which flashed across goal but no one managed to make contact and the chance was wasted.

On the half hour mark, a quick free-kick from Harworth struck the leg of the referee and fell to Matt Reay. Reay then switched play over to Matt Sykes who brought the ball down beautifully. The Worksop winger found Simpson who played Price down the line. Price cut it back for Jordan who took it in his stride however, he saw his left-footed shot superbly palmed wide by Jamie Hooley.

The hosts almost took advantage of a Worksop defensive error five minutes later. Sam Foulds chased down and blocked Reay’s attempted clearance. Foulds picked up the ball, played a one-two with Davies, before he headed towards goal. Foulds saw his fierce strike saved down low by David Reay and then Bruno Holden managed to blaze over the rebound.

With five minutes of the half remaining, Sykes tried his luck from far out. Atherton managed to nick the ball off the Harworth winger. The ball fell to the feet of Smythe who gave it to Simpson. ‘Simmo’ cut across the body of his marker and teed up Sykes, who was twenty-five yards out, for the shot but his thunderous strike was straight at the keeper who blocked the effort.

On the stroke of half-time, Town added a third to their tally. Prices cross from the left fell to the feet of Simpson whose shot was parried by Hooley into the path of Jordan who poked the ball over the keeper and into the roof of the net.

The second half saw several changes to both sides which seemed to kill all momentum in the last period, it was more like a training game but as it is only pre-season, we’ll let it slide.

The Tigers almost extended their lead just minutes after the restart. Smythe opted to take the corner short to Simpson who held it up before returning the favour as he passed it back to Smythe. The left-back drilled a ball across goal where Pemberton got a toe-end on the cross but didn’t make enough contact as it went out for a goal-kick.

On the hour mark, Connor Smythe saw his freekick, central and around twenty-five yards out, beat the wall but unfortunately it also flew over the bar.

Then a clash happened from a corner as Harley Wilson and goalkeeper Jamie Hooley collided with the latter of the two coming of worse as the number one was flat out on the floor in some discomfort. After treatment from Worksop’s Physio Shannon Brooks, Hooley continued for around ten minutes before signalling to come off.

The home side enjoyed the last two chances of the second half.

Firstly, Igor Mlynarski dinked a ball towards the edge of the area where Bruno Holden produced a fine volley which was held well by Andy Francis.

Finally, Alex Boyd saw his bullet header, from a corner, ricochet off the post and out.

The full-time whistle went with Worksop Town leaving the Jones and Co Recreational Ground 0-3 victors.

Worksop Town First Half XI: David Reay, Deegan Atherton, Matt Reay, Matt Pemberton, Michael Trench, Jamie Price, Danny Patterson, Connor Smythe, Mark Simpson, Kyle Jordan, Matt Sykes.

Worksop Town Second Half XI: Andy Francis, Brad Wilson, Deegan Atherton, Matt Pemberton, Connor Smythe, Ross Goodwin, Harley Wilson, Will Wraith, Mark Simpson (Luke Francis), Connor Brunt

Game 4 17/07/18 - Handsworth Parramore 0-3 Mickleover Sports

Handsworth Parramore 0-3 Mickleover Sports

Sports visited Sandy Lane this Tuesday night after beating Football League sides Notts County and Burton Albion, 1-0 and 2-1 respectively. Parramore kicked off their pre-season with a 3-0 win over a Sheffield United XI side.

It seemed like I was watching an Ex-Worksop side as both teams featured many players that had featured for the Tigers. Parramore had Stuart Ludlum, Lee Hill, Jake Currie, Jordan Turner, Alec Denton and John Froggatt. Sports had Tom Burgin, Jake Scott, Ben Turner, Evan Garnett, Nathan Jarman and also Danny Davidson as a coach. Mickleover also lined-up with former Sheffield Wednesday, Coventry City and Crystal Palace forward Clinton Morrison, Ex-Rotherham United and Crawley Town centre-back Pablo Mills, and in the heart of midfield they had the vastly experienced John McGrath.

Mickleover opened the chances in the first minute. A sports trialist chased a ball down the right and struck an effort towards the bottom right however the keeper managed to get down and parry the shot out for a corner.

Ten minutes in, Parramore had their first attempt of the game. A cross from the left fell to the feet of Oliver Fearon who saw his fierce half-volley blocked by Pablo Mills.

Sports then had two chances to open the scoring. The Sports trialist accelerated down the right before floating a cross towards the penalty spot where Jack Walsh saw his acrobatic effort superbly pushed wide by the Parramore shot-stopper. Following the corner, Mills saw his powerful header caught by the keeper.

Mickleover Sports took the lead moments later through a trialist. The keeper made an error as he played the ball to the edge of the box where the trialist picked up the ball, rounded the embarrassed number one and slotted his shot home.

The trialist was proving to be a real handful for the Amber Parras, he almost bagged his second ten minutes after netting the opener. Ben Turner’s cross was glanced towards goal by the winger however the keeper abducted his arm to tip the effort wide of the target.

On the hour mark, Jordan Turner managed to nick the ball off Turner and crossed into the box for Phillips who flicked it on for James Ashmore whose effort went well over the bar.

VAR would have been useful at Sandy Lane in the thirty-sixth minute. John McGrath played a lovely one-two with Clinton Morrison before seeing his thunderous effort cannon off the underside of the bar, down onto the line, and then back out and cleared. Nothing was given and the away side still remained only one goal ahead.

Minutes later, Turner was sent through on goal by Ashmore. Turner attempted to chip the ball over the keeper who managed to backtrack and catch the chance.

The final chance of the half fell in favour of the visitors. The trialist burst down the right and cut the ball back for Clinton Morrison who curled his shot just inches over the target.

Jimmy Phillips almost added to the lead minutes after the restart. Phillips cut in from the left and forced the keeper into a save as he parried wide of his bottom left corner.

Mickleover doubled their lead eight minutes after the break. John McGrath beautifully curled his free-kick over the wall and into the bottom right from twenty-five yards out.

On the hour mark, Nathan Jarman cut in from the right and used the outside of his right boot to bend an effort just wide of the upright.

With twenty minutes to go, Jake Currie intercepted Ben Turner’s sloppy pass and played the ball through to Alec Denton who turned really well until he fell over the ball and Burgin cleared it.

There was a penalty shout for Parramore not long after. Istead weaved his way down to the byline before pulling the ball back for Jake Currie whose first time shot was bravely blocked by Jake Scott. The ball fizzed up into the air and Burgin headed it away but in doing so, he caught Denton in the face with his elbow and the home side surrounded the referee but the man in black waved away any claims.

Sports added a third in the latter stages of the friendly. Niall Doran escaped the attention of the Parramore back-line to latch onto a pump up field. Doran out-paced Lee Hill and tucked his shot under the keeper.

The game filtered out and Sports ran out 3-0 victors.

Game 3 14/07/18 - Cleethorpes Town 2-1 Worksop Town

Game 2 13/07/18 - Lincoln City 0-1 Sheffield Wednesday

Lincoln City 0-1 Sheffield Wednesday

Forestieri nets as the Owls beat the Imps

Wednesday visited Sincil Bank in their first friendly in front of a crowd of the new campaign. The Owls, who we’re showing off their returning blue and white stripes, just edged a close encounter thanks to a neat Fernando Forestieri half-volley early into the second half.

The first chance of the game fell in favour of the League Two side. Chapman played the ball down the line for Eardley. Eardley weaved his way past Tom Lees before floating a ball to the back post where John Akinde saw his powerful header caught by Keiren Westwood.

Moments later, Akinde had another chance to open the scoring in similar fashion to his previous chance. Eardley swung in a cross towards Akinde at the back post but the striker diverted the cross wide of the upright.

Wednesday finally woke up and the championship outfit had their first chance of the friendly twenty minutes in. Sam Hutchinson sent a looping ball over the top of the Imps backline for Adam Reach who managed to hit his effort over the keeper but also, over the bar.

The home side then saw another chance pass them by. Lee Frecklington and Chapman’s interchange of passes allowed space to open up for Bruno Andrade who was picked out by Chapman. Andrade took the ball out of his feet but frustratingly saw his long-ranged effort caught by the diving Westwood.

After the half hour mark, Wednesday won a corner when Ash Baker saw his cross deflected behind by the leg of Waterfall. Baker took the corner short to Adam Reach however the chance was waste as Morgan Fox headed over the bar from Reach’s perfectly executed cross.

John Akinde was showing plenty of promise to his new employers, after joining City from Barnet this summer, but he couldn’t find the touch needed to open his account for the Imps. Akinde rose highest in the box to glance Frecklington’s free-kick wide of the target.

The final effort of the half fell to the visitors. A good passing play in midfield allowed Hutchinson to pick out the run of Baker and dink the ball over for the Welsh wing-bank. Baker headed past the keeper and across goal but Wilson managed to race back and clear it off the line.

The half-time whistle sounded with both teams goalless at Sincil Bank.

Wednesday completely changed up their team for the second half, including an appearance for prospect Fraser Preston. He almost had instant impact too when he latched onto Liam Palmer’s through-ball minutes after the restart. Preston cut back across the body of his marker and whipped in an intended cross for Nuhiu which was vitally intercepted by the Lincoln keeper.

Four minutes later, Joey Pelupessy saw his wayward first time strike fly high and wide from the edge of the box.

The Owls opened the scoring in the fifty-fourth minute. The move started from a Cameron Dawson goal-kick which was brought down by Liam Palmer. The Worksop-born full-back gave the ball to Atdhe Nuhiu who flicked it onto Preston who subsequently, picked out Palmer further down the line as he had continued his run. Palmer then switched the ball to the left-hand side of the box for Fernando Forestieri who brought the cross down before volleying across the ball and into the bottom corner. This was his second goal in pre-season after scoring in a behind close doors match against Bury, which the Owls won 3-0.

On the hour mark, Matt Rhead held off his marker before playing it out to a Lincoln City trialist. The trialist sharply turned past his marker and took aim from about thirty yards but he saw his shot ricocheted of the face of the stand.

Lincoln had two big chances to equalise in the closing stages.

Firstly, Anderson broke into the Wednesday final third and threaded the ball through the box to another trialist who opted to use his right foot and curled an effort just wide of the far post.

In the last minute of added time, a trialist escaped his marker and broke through one-on-one with Cameron Dawson however the shot-stopper spread himself as he pulled the trigger and superbly blocked the shot with his foot.

The final whistle went to confirm Wednesday’s win. They next face Mansfield Town on Tuesday 24TH July.

Game 1 10/07/18 - Parkgate FC 0-4 Worksop Town

Parkgate FC 0-4 Worksop Town

Tigers kick-off Denton era with win

Worksop Town started their first pre-season game in style as they overturned a recently relegated Parkgate FC. First half goals from Tomas Poole, Craig Mitchell and a double from the returning Kyle Jordan put the game beyond reach. The Tigers changed it up for the second period bringing on a more youthful side who were all keen to impress new boss Craig Denton. Both sides enjoyed large spells of possession without little chances. The away side had the ball in the back of the net in the latter stages however the goal was disallowed for offside.

I apologise for the lack of names for Parkgate, I couldn’t find a team sheet

The visitors opened the scoring in the opening three minutes. Poole accelerated down the left-hand side and swung in a dangerous cross which was heading towards Craig Mitchell until Pargate5 rushed ahead of the forward to head behind. Captain for the game Jamie Price fizzed in the corner towards the back post where an unmarked Tomas Poole was on hand to poke the cross into the net.

On the tenth minute, Jamie Price flashed a shot just over the bar from the edge of the box following a corner from Danny Patterson which had been headed out to the ex-Scarborough midfielder.

Worksop’s lead was doubled minutes later as goal-scorer turned provider. Danny Patterson noticed the diagonal run from Poole and pumped the ball upfield. The centre-half misjudged the bounce and Poole nodded the ball ahead of himself and advanced forward. Poole unselfishly squared the ball across to Craig Mitchell who subsequently slammed the ball past the keeper for the second.

Poole was amongst the attacking action once again moments later. Michael Trench played the ball into the centre where Poole took it past his man and played the ball down the line for Trench who had continued his run. Trench got to the by-line and crossed it low and hard to Goodwin who stabbed the ball into the side-netting.

Two minutes later, Kyle Jordan returned to old goalscoring habits as he added a third. Mitchell turned his marker and slotted the ball through for Jordan who superbly held off his marker before stroking the ball past the out-rushing Parkgate keeper.

Parkgate had their first and only shot of the first forty-five minutes not long after the Tigers had scored their third. The Parkgate left-back was unleashed down the left-wing where he cut across the body of Steve Woolley and fired his shot wide of the target.

Just after the half hour mark, Jordan bagged his brace from the spot. Mitchell battled his way into the box before he was shoved over by the Parkgate centre-back. Kyle Jordan stepped up and coolly placed the ball beyond the grasp of the keeper.

Worksop retained the ball for the remaining minutes and the referee blew for half-time with the Tigers in cruise control. The Tigers introduced seven players for the second half.

Familiar face Connor Smythe almost set up the fifth. Smythe was played down the line by Goodwin and delivered a beautiful cross towards the back post where Matt Sykes rose highest but headed over the bar.

On the hour mark, Parkgate’s right winger darted down the right wing as the Steelmen looked counter from a Town attack. The winger cut in onto his left foot but saw his near post shot caught by Andy Francis.

The Tigers then had the ball in the net in the seventy-seventh minute. Smythe weaved his way towards the byline before dinking the ball into the middle where Connor Brunt headed it past the keeper but their celebrations came to a halt as the linesman lifted his flag for offside.

Electric winger Matt Sykes then had an opportunity to open his account for the Tigers. Jordan held the ball up well before he teed up Sykes on the edge of the area but the former Rainworth man curled his effort wide of the upright.

The final chance of the game fell to the host’s. Parkgate15 was threaded through on goal by his strike-partner however he saw his shot saved by the feet of James Gamble from close range.

The full-time whistle sounded to end the game leaving Tigers fans with a lot of promise as we edge closer to the start of the season.

Worksop next face a trip to the seaside as they take on Cleethorpes Town on Saturday 14th July.
