#GAME25 19/09/17 Liversedge 0-1 Worksop Town

Liversedge 0-1 Worksop Town

Kyle Jordan takes his chance to score the only goal in the Tigers 1-0 victory against Liversedge
The hosts were unbeaten in the league prior to this fixture on a cold Tuesday night in Liversedge, and had proved to be a tough team to breakdown on the night.

The hosts went close five minutes in when striker Joe Walton received the ball with his back to goal, he spun his marker and bent his shot just wide of the Worksop goal.

Shortly after Worksop had their chance to take the lead. Firstly Jepson played a one-two ball with Higginson, his cross was headed out to Barnett whose first time shot struck the face of his own man Alec Denton, the ball fell to Woolley whose shot flashed past Jordan but he couldn’t get a touch and the ball ran out of play.

Boardman ran through on goal on the half hour mark after Jack Waters threaded the ball between Hill and Chapell, however 6ft 6” Alexander rushed off his line and blocked the shot magnificently with his feet. A minute later he saved again but this time from Walton’s curling effort.

On the stroke of halftime Tom Brook carried the ball all the way from his own half to the corner flag with an impressive run and cross for Devonte Morton but his header flashed across the goal and out for a goal kick. This was the final chance of the half and both teams went in goalless.

Kyle Jordan broke the deadlock just four minutes after the restart to net his second goal in as many games. Chapell played the ball down the wing for Bishop whose cross went untouched as it came across the face of goal, Jordan tried to chip the ball into the box but the ball was cleared back to him, KJ shifted the ball on to his left foot and proceeded to smash the ball past a hopeless Waggett for the games opening goal.

Worksop then had two great chances to double the lead when Woolley saw his left footed strike kissed the top of the crossbar. Then Micah Bishop danced his way to the edge of the box and rifled a fierce drive straight at the body of the keeper.

Lee Hill was sent for an early shower on the 72nd minute as the referee deemed his challenge too dangerous and gave Hilly a straight red. This meant Worksop had to get the bus parked and see out the 1-0 lead with ten men for the last twenty minutes.

Thompson and Walton had chances to equalise at the dying stages of the game. Thompson fired his shot from the right side of the area into the side netting. Then Walton then saw his shot again blocked by Alexander who had been a dominant figure in between the sticks all game and definitely earned his clean sheet.

Turner could of finally calmed the nerves of the Tigers faithful as he broke through one on one but the Liversedge number one came out the winner of the battle and left the fans biting what remained of their finger nails for the remaining minutes.

The Tigers put their bodies on the line and fought hard for their win. A good honest display with some good football played, Hindley showed his relief and passion with a fist pump and battlecry to the traveling Tigers after the full-time whistle.
