Game 9 28/07/18 - Goole AFC 2-2 Belper Town

Goole AFC 2-2 Belper Town

Goole fight back twice to draw

Belper Town opened the scoring in the sixth minute. Captain Alex Paterson took Jake Sturgess’ excellent ball over the top in his stride and advanced towards goal before slotting it past the keeper. Lund scampered back and cleared the ball away however, the lineman indicated to the referee that the ball had crossed the line.

Ten minutes later, Marcel Chigamora entered the field and almost made an instant impact as he replaced an injured Goole forward. Chigamora accelerated down the right to latch onto an Alex Varley pump upfield. The pacey forward entered the box before turning out then in but then hit his effort into the sidenetting.

Goole were on level terms thanks to their player/manager Derry Robson. Robson found himself in acres of space and tried his luck from around twenty-five yards out. The shot managed to slip past the keeper and into his bottom right corner.

Just after the half hour mark, the away side regained the lead. Belper broke down the right with Danny Gordon who, as he neared the byline, cut the ball back to Nathan Curtis who subsequently squared the ball for Marcus Day to slam home past Joe Wilton.

Robson had a glorious chance to equalise once again. He brought down a ball over the top beautifully but ended up firing just wide of the far post.

The final chance of the half fell to the host’s. Mark Purvis delivered a perfectly weighted free-kick towards the far end of the six yard box where Adam Lund rose highest but headed it just over the bar.

Ten minutes after the restart, A poor Goole corner was headed out to Josh Eastwood. Eastwood took a touch before hammering a long range shot towards goal which took a small deflection but was superbly saved and held by Beardmore.

Belper could have extended their lead on the sixty-fifth minute. Marcus Day swung a lovely cross towards the middle where an unmarked Peterson got a toe-end on the ball but he didn’t get enough on it to send it in as the ball continued its flight and went out for a goal-kick.

Goole equalised with fifteen minutes to go. Marcel Chigamora was unleashed through on goal by Max Tweddle. Chigamora darted towards the net before stroking his shot past an outrushing Beardmore.

Belper almost won the game on the stroke of full-time. Jordan Eldridge managed to weave his way through the Goole midfield and backline. Eldridge pulled the trigger but Eastwood slid in and deflected the effort onto the post and out.

The full-time whistle went minutes later.

Belper Town take on Coalville Town at home in their first game of the 2018/19 season. Goole welcome Worksop Town in their first game after relegation from the Evo-Stik.
