Game 8 27/07/18 - Worksop Town 0-0 Mickleover Sports

Worksop Town 0-0 Mickleover Sports

Tigers hold NPL outfit to a draw

A highly contested affair ended in stalemate at Sandy Lane as both sides defended very well.

The visitors almost took the lead in the opening stages. Evan Garnett latched onto Turners through-ball but the pacey striker saw his shot saved well by Francis who deflected it wide.

Ten minutes later, Nathan Jarman saw his fierce strike, from the edge of the area, excellently tipped over by Francis.

Mickleover were holding the ball for long periods of time however, when the Tigers did get the ball, they created many good chances with it. Tomas Poole, who was electric all night, knocked the ball past his marker before teeing up Templeton whose left footed strike went just over the bar.

On the half hour mark, A trialist from Mickleover took advantage of a Liam Royles lapse in concentration. The number two took the ball down on to his left peg before curling his shot onto the post.

Another trialist also took the lead on thirty-nine minutes. The number eight wrong footed Max Pemberton and then saw his curling effort just go over the bar and land on the top of the net.

On the stroke of half-time, Templeton took the ball away from his marker before seeing his thunderous strike cannon off the post and out for a goal-kick.

The second half began with Mickleover Sports almost breaking the deadlock. The number eight incepted an under-hit pass and bursted towards goal. As he was about to pull the trigger, Matt Reay raced back and made a vital tackle to deny the Sports trialist.

Five minutes into the second period, Worksop missed from the spot. Tom Burgin handled Tom Poole’s shot in the area leaving the referee no choice but to point to the spot. Simpson stepped up but saw his penalty parried away by the keeper.

There were chances at both ends of the field on fifty-four minutes. Firstly, Tom Burgin saw his header saved and then caught by Francis. The ball was pumped upfield and found its way to Goodwin who saw his fierce strike saved down low by the keeper.

The last ten minutes were completely dominated by Mickleover as the Tigers seemed to have burnt out.

Nathan Jarman made himself space for a shot but saw his chance blocked by Matt Reay which took a lot of the pace off the ball allowing substitute James Gamble to pick up the ball with ease.

Garnett then forced another save out of the keeper. Garnett played a one-two with Jarman before seeing his powerful effort held by Gamble towards his midriff.

Nial Doran almost snatched it right at the end of the game. Doran cut in from the right and rifled a shot towards the bottom right which was superbly parried wide by Gamble.

The referee brought proceedings to a halt with the game ending as a draw.
