A good match up between a strong Under 23s team and a new look Worksop side who were still finding their feet playing together.
The Young Owls were very dominant in the early stages and were content with just keeping the ball. It was Wednesday, winners of the Development League 2, who took the lead from Deon Moore who was gifted the goal due to a Tigers defenders mistake in the 25th minute. The Owls then hit the post when Warran Clarke got on the end of a cross from the left. The Tigers drew level when Steve Woolley picked out 6ft 6" Jack Hague at the back post from the corner. However a few minutes later Jack Stobbs produced a great cross for Moore to volley home his and Wednesday's second goal of the game on the brink of halftime.
Around 10 substitutes were introduced for the second half for both teams. It's was more of the same as the first half as visitors were happy to play possession for the first ten or so minutes. George Hirst, made a darting run towards the front post only to head narrowly wide from Jack Stobbs cross. Kyle Jordan then side-footed home a squared ball from the wing to pull the game level in the 73rd minute. In the last moments of the game when Michael Trench was deemed to have brought down Kirby in the box, a penalty was awarded. Up stepped George Hirst, with the last kick of the game, who slotted cooly past Kennedy.
Worksop would have felt hard done by after Wednesday snatched the win. A great match to watch!
