A typical first friendly was played out at Cannon Park between the Bassetlaw rivals. A new look Worksop side set up 4-4-2 and linked very well with some cracking passing play on show and also wingers and fullbacks trying to trying to beat the opponent to the by-line (which is what I like to see). It was the Badgers who struck first on 25 minutes after Brad Kilmer pounced on a scramble in the box. It would only take the Tigers 9 minutes to equalise through Mitch Husbands. Mitch turned his opponent and shot from the edge of the box which took a wicked deflection and wrong footed the keeper. After that there wasn't much to report up to half time apart from a back post header from Steve Woolley whose header was tipped over but the Retford keeper. The second half was mainly Worksop who created some key chances and made the keeper pull a few cracking saves off, however the Tigers were not rewarded.
A decent start to pre-season, obviously the results don't matter until the 5th of August but it gives us a good idea of what the players can offer. I was glad to see Jack Barnett back in a Worksop shirt, I thought Liam Greenfield looked very promising and Jed Phillips looked solid. Mitch worked his bollacks off and Woolley looked back to his best. Overall, Happy Tiger so far
