#GAME10 05/08/17 Preston North End 1-0 Sheffield Wednesday

Preston North End 1-0 Sheffield Wednesday
Att: 18,267
Lineup: Westwood; Hunt, Lees, Loovens, Pudil; Boyd (Wallace), Bannan, Hutchinson (Jones), Reach; Forestieri, Rhodes (Hooper)

Wednesdays opening day fixture ends in defeat away to Preston North End. A very poor performance from the Owls as PNE dominated the game throughout as Wednesday couldn't find a way through.
Preston went close when Sean Maguire went through on goal but luckily Westwood shut out the angle and pushed the shot out for a corner. Wednesdays clearest chance of a timid first half came when Reach snatched at shot from 25 yards which trickled out for a goal kick.
In the second half Callum Robinson almost put the hosts ahead as he broke into the box and curled his shot the wrong side of the post. The Owls' best chance fell to substitute Ross Wallace as he turned his marker and fired his shot just over the bar. Shortly after, ex-Wednesday player Tommy Spurr connected with a corner from Gallagher but his header hit the bar and then Hugill failed to get a shot off. The referee awarded a penalty ten minutes from time when Hugill slalomed his way through the Wednesday defence, he was then tackled in the box but the ref deemed Lees' challenge a foul. Johnson put away the penalty and won the game for the Lilywhites. Hugill then had a goal disallowed for offside when he ran through and lifted the ball over the keeper and the game finished 1-0.
