Game 34 // 13/10/18 - Worksop Town 1-1 Maltby Main

Worksop Town 1-1 Maltby Main

Honours even on a very windy Non-League Day

Maltby Main took the lead against the run of play just after the half hour mark thanks to Cameron Rigby. Kyle Jordan cancelled out the visitors’ lead as he volleyed home the equaliser. It was a tense and scrappy finish as neither team could conjure up a winner.

The Tigers opened the chances in the first two minutes of the game when space opened up for Steve Woolley in the centre and the September Player of the Month winner fired high over the bar.

Moments later, a good interchange of passes between Trench, Woolley and Moxam allowed the latter to square it, on the edge of the box, to Kyle Jordan who cleverly cut past his marker before seeing his shot deflect wide via the leg of Brad Morton.

In the tenth minute, Kyle Jordan took aim from twenty-five yards and curled a tame effort wide of the far post.

After Worksop’s dominance in the opening stages, Maltby had their first opportunity of the game. Ross Duggan received the ball with his back to goal and hit a shot on the swivel which David Reay stopped from going in despite spilling it on the first attempt.

Twenty minutes in, Jordan almost opened the scoring. Royles drifted a ball into the centre where Jordan’s first touch set him up for the volley on the spin in which he executed sweetly but the shot whistled wide of the upright.

Minutes after, Main were denied a certain goal thanks to David Reay. Jonathan Hill picked out the run of Ross Duggan at the back post where the forward saw his volley saved by the arm of Reay and the ball was subsequently cleared.

Just after the half-hour mark, Maltby Main took the lead in a similar way to last weeks fist goal at Knaresborough. Josh Nodder slipped in-between Matt Reay and Trench to drill the ball across goal for Cameron Rigby to pass into an open net.

With five minutes to go, Steve Woolley almost worked his magic when he lined-up a free-kick which was whipped over the wall and just inches wide of the post.

On the stroke of half-time, a Pemberton whipped cross was headed out to Matt Reay who teed up Sykes for a fizzing volley which rose high over the bar and clipped the side of the clubhouse on his way down.

Town should have been on level terms five minutes after the restart. Matt Sykes played in a low ball towards the centre when Aaron Moxam saw his header put behind by the brave block of Morton.

Rigby almost bagged his brace when he cut in from the left but Reay made a smart save down below to deny the winger.

The Tigers levelled up the game thanks to top scorer Kyle Jordan. Max Pemberton received his long throw back to him and then saw his cross was headed into the path of Kyle Jordan who dispatched a beautiful volley into the bottom corner.

After the hour mark, Tomas Poole almost made instant impact as he knocked the ball over the head of Darker before volleying over the bar.

Moments later, Steve Woolley switched play to the right flank where Liam Royles brought the ball down magnificently before threading it through for Moxam to turn and shoot but his effort cannoned off the post and wide.

Maltby were almost gifted a goal. David Reay tried to play out from the back but saw his pass take a nick of the thigh of Duggan and into the path of Steven Hopewell who dragged his volley wide of the mark.

Time was running out for either team to find a winner on Non-League Day.

On the stroke of full-time, Max Pemberton glanced a header wide from a deep Royles cross.

The referee blew for the last time this afternoon with the score-line even.
